Re: Life / on haikus, proteins, and snakebites
My life condensed into variably interesting posts on the internet
Welcome to Re: Life 👋 !
I’m Aaryan - currently a sophomore at Stanford diving headfirst into a world of biology, hardware, and mild sleep deprivation.
You just stumbled on the weird corner of the internet where I chronicle my life. In every post, I share three quick updates from my life, two links to noodle on, and one idea to reflect on for the week.
Let’s begin.
🎬 Three Speedy Updates 🎬
// After wrapping up my project to discover new viruses, I’m back at the Bollyky Lab! Currently learning how to express proteins in E. coli bacteria and quantify them with Western Blot.
// Just published an article on how bacteriophages interact with our immune system. Still working on other pieces, and using my free time to pen random notes on science and philosophy.
// Now that I’m done with final projects and homework, I’m starting to ease into all my free time (which feels really strange). For now, I’m going on walks around campus, reading Master and Margarita, and getting to know my dorm neighbors better.
🎉 Two Random Resources 🎉
How many people die from snakebites?
The scale of this surprised me—it might surprise you, too.
Matsuo Basho’s Haikus
Some of my favorite work from one of Japan’s most loved poets
🧠One Interesting Idea ðŸ§
Egyptian author Naguib Mahfouz on the value of courage:
Fear does not prevent death, it prevents life.
What is the step you’ve kept yourself from taking?
Best,
Aaryan
