Re: Life / on vaccines, night flights, and coming home
My life condensed into variably interesting posts on the internet
Welcome to Re: Life! I’m Aaryan.
Till recently, I was a high schooler in the snowy town of Sudbury, Canada. Now, I’m a freshman at Stanford diving headfirst into a realm of biology, hardware, and mild sleep deprivation.
You’ve stumbled on the weird place on the internet where I chronicle my life, thoughts, and the random things I create, from wind turbines to medical devices.
Let’s begin.
What I’ve Been Up To 🛠
// Heading back to Canada after wrapping up my second quarter at Stanford! (In fact, I’m writing this newsletter from a QDOBA at Denver airport). Can’t wait to see my family, get some sleep (on my own bed!), and tinker in my garage again…
// For those of you who read last month’s post, I mentioned my project to design the world’s first single dose Hepatitis E vaccine. Well, the viral fragments just arrived in the mail and I synthesized our first vials yesterday!
// Continuing to self-study immunology (currently I’m learning about pattern-recognition receptors), and reading through some science fiction classics (specifically Arrowsmith and War of the Worlds). Free time feels like such a luxury now!!
Thought of the Week 🧐
Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu on liberation:
If you aren’t free of yourself, how will you ever become yourself?
Something to ponder in the coming weeks: what parts of me are opposed to the person I want to become?
