Re: Life / on lizards, physics, and ozempic
My life condensed into variably interesting posts on the internet
Welcome to Re: Life 👋 !
I’m Aaryan — a junior at Stanford diving headfirst into a world of virology, philosophy, and mild sleep deprivation.
You just stumbled into the weird corner of the internet where I chronicle my life. In every post, I share three brief updates, two random lessons, and one idea to reflect on for the week.
Let’s begin.
🎬 Three Brief Updates 🎬
// It’s somehow November and junior year is in full swing! These days, you’ll find me scribbling notes for physics, banging my head on second order differential equations, or catching up on Sōseki’s canon for our Japanese literature class. In other words, business as usual.
// Midterms have been vanquished, and I’m doubling down on my virology research. Right now, I’m investigating how pathogenic Pseudomonas bacteria respond to a dual-barrel attack of phages and antibiotics. (It’s times like these when I wish I could run experiments all day…)
// In the time that’s left, I’m thinking, writing, and finding some peace through long walks around campus. (Nature, I’ve realized, is quite underrated). Of note, I’m reading Black Rain by Masuji Ibuse and recently published a piece on how viruses could control human weight.
🎉 Two Random Lessons 🎉
Oracle Bone Script
What the earliest Chinese characters looked like.
Ozempic Came from a Monster Lizard
How we accidentally discovered the world’s most valuable drug.
🧠 One Simple Idea 🧠
Dostoevsky on the dangers of overthinking.
I swear to you that to think too much is a disease, a real, actual disease.
Introspection alone will paralyze you. Your life begins the moment you change your behavior.
Nothing moves without the courage to try. So try.
Best,
Aaryan
