Re: Life / on friendships, new science, and turning eighteen
My life condensed into variably interesting posts on the internet
Welcome to Re: Life! I’m Aaryan.
Till recently, I was a high schooler in the snowy town of Sudbury, Canada. Now, I’m a freshman at Stanford diving headfirst into a realm of biology, hardware, and mild sleep deprivation.
You’ve stumbled on the weird place on the internet where I chronicle my life, thoughts, and the random things I create, from wind turbines to medical devices.
Let’s begin.
What I’ve Been Up To 🛠
// After two heavenly weeks of home-cooked food, movie sprees, and quality time with family, I flew across the continent yet again to return to college. Sure, sleepy time is over, but I’m excited to juggle new courses, make new friends, and hit the winter quarter in full force!
// Officially joined Dr. Paul Bollyky’s lab, which studies the behavior and clinical applications of bacteriophages, which are viruses that kill bacteria! Can’t wait to contribute to their research and hone my lab skills.
// When I wasn’t maniacally chugging out calculus problems, I spent my bits of free time exploring hidden corners of campus, savoring eccentric movies with friends, and more or less basking in the magic of university life.
What can I say? Life’s pretty good.
Bonus Update 🎉
// I just turned eighteen a few days ago (Jan 13th), so I spent most of the weekend enjoying the best birthday party ever, which my rockstar dorm-mates spent two whole weeks planning without me ever catching on.
With that, a HUGE shoutout to Ria, Canon, Janet, Alvin, Michael, Unesco, and the Cedro family for making my first birthday away from home so special!
Thought of the Week 🧐
Author and speaker Ralph Marston on our impulse for perfection:
“You were born to be real, not to be perfect. You are here to be you, not to live someone else’s life.”
Don’t strive to be the best. Strive to be the only.
Happy birthday Aaryan!!!
