Re: Life / on belief, travel, and molecular gastronomy
My life condensed into variably interesting posts on the internet
Welcome to Re: Life 👋 !
I’m Aaryan - currently a sophomore at Stanford diving headfirst into a world of biology, hardware, and mild sleep deprivation.
You just stumbled on the weird corner of the internet where I chronicle my life. In every post, I share three quick updates from my life, two useful resources for you, and one idea to reflect on for the week.
Let’s begin.
Three Speedy Updates ⚡️
// Just moved back to Stanford after a summer of microbiology research and a quick retreat back home in Canada. Classes are starting, boxes are getting unpacked, and life is ramping up again.
// Still spending my evenings after classes trying to discover new bacteriophages. It's an independent project, and we don't know very much about viral discovery to begin with, so there's a lot that I'm clumsily figuring out on my own. I can't share much more at the moment, but rest assured that more updates are coming out soon!
// Starting to run outside, spend more time with friends, and read about ideas I know uncomfortably little about. (Right now, I'm working through some wonderful books on our sense of smell and the history of gastronomy).
Two Fun Resources 🎉
Science Ambassador Scholarship
A $20,000 scholarship funded by the creators of Cards Against Humanity.
The Fantastic Rise of Southwest Airlines
An illuminating podcast that covers the life of Herb Kelleher, and the strokes of genius that made Southwest Airlines take to the skies.
(Even if you’re not looking to start an airline, Southwest’s journey is a masterclass on marketing and business smarts that will give you an edge anywhere).
One Big Idea 🧠
In one of her poems, Emily Dickinson once wrote that “behavior without belief is small”.
Something inexplicable happens when you feel the beauty of an idea. Your words suddenly ring like the truth, and your conviction becomes magnetic. While logic can sway the mind, only feeling has the force to win the heart.
For the world to believe in you, you have to believe in you first.
Best,
Aaryan
